Here is how you turn roadkill into free protein (via maggots) for the chickens. Place 3″ of leaf litter in the bottom of the tub, then the host animal, then 3″ more of leaf litter. Close the top so that the only way in for flies are the holes and wait several days for the free food.
Today the geese, goats, cows, and pigs are dining on some serious organic grub: hydroponic butter lettuce, broccoli, romaine, carrots, peas, and multi-greens all courtesy of a generous big box retailer’s waste stream. What a feeding frenzy.
Baby geese are on their first day out of the nursery coop checking things out and getting some good butter lettuce to eat. What a treat. They are spoiled.
For the first time, the young pigs met the cows in the same pasture. The pigs thought the cows were something to eat until the cow made the pig fly by throwing it with her head. I wish had caught that move on video.
