The snow is melting, but now it really is a muddy mess. This stuff needs to dry up soon, so I can get back to work on pasture renovation projects at my farm and others.

More snow and power outage
We received 8 inches of snow last night. Today we lost power. No word on when it will come back on. Luckily we have city water so I can keep filling the animal waters with that instead of using the well, which requires power. No need to break out the generator yet.
With that in mind, have you considered what you would do to keep the power and water on in an extended power outage? Call us for a consult about getting set up with backup power either via solar, batteries, or a generator. We can also show you how to get water out of your well when the power is off with solutions such as a mechanical hand pump.
Wintertime Water Woes
For the past week we have had extremely cold weather along with a covering of ice and snow. Anyone with livestock had double duty getting liquid water and food to the animals.
If you didn’t have an underground water distribution system with freeze-less hydrants and a heated well, you were probably running out of liquid water in your troughs. There were probably piles of ice beside the troughs that you couldn’t even use. Of course you can always improvise with a water tanker, but maybe it is time to consider a water distribution system to ease winter watering chores.
