Goslings started hatching

April 24, 2015Uncategorizedbabies, brood, gaggle, geese, goose, gosling, hatchingadmin

From the pictures, one can not tell, but there are goslings under these broody geese. Very protective parents. If you try to lift up a wing to check on the goslings, you will lose an arm.

April 19, 2015Uncategorized1962, 4000, corn, cover crop, Ford, Jason Shepherd, plow, plowing, tillageadmin

This morning I plowed under the 1 acre corn patch at Jason’s farm. Got out Old Blue, the 1962 Ford 4000 to pull the double plow. Just in time to receive some rain in the opened up soil and break the clods down. I a week or two, I will harrow and till to get ready for corn planting.

April 9, 2015Uncategorizedbeds, Busted Bucket Farm, Frank, tillingadmin

Connected the PTO tiller to the tractor and tilled up the wide beds to get ready for Frank’s plantings at BBF. All that was leftover from last year was the garlic that over-wintered. The strawberries did not make it through the extra cold winter.

Farm road drainage project near complete

April 6, 2015Uncategorizedbackhoe, drainage, grading, gravel, Jed Ross, piping, road, swale, trenchingadmin

The french drains, surface gravel, drainage swales, and other piping is in place in the tractor path drainage project. Rough grading is also done. Now time for a rain to see the water gurgle out the downhill side. Once this dries the area out, it is time to get the heavy fertilizer truck to pass through, which was the goal of the project.
